The effect of the earth's atmosphere on satellite motion is analyzed. It is assumed that the air is a perfect incompressible fluid in irrotational motion. Equations are derived, and the existence of particular motions is demonstrated for satellites revolving around the earth. The description of these motions is that the satellite center of gravity has a uniform circular motion around its axis perpendicular to the plane of the circle. The Liapunov method provides sufficient conditions for stability and instability of this motion.
