86 new levels due to the highly-excited configurations 3d64s(6D)nl, 3d64s(6D)nl, 3d64s(4D)nl, and 3d7(4F)nl of Fe I have been established using visible and infra-red Fourier transform spectra of iron-neon and iron-argon hollow cathodes. 110 previously reported levels have also been revised to an accuracy of 0.003-0.005 cm-1. The levels were confirmed by comparison with ultraviolet spectra measured with a 1O.7m grating spectrograph. A companion paper presents the identified lines in both laboratory and solar spectra.
