Medium-resolution spectra have been used to determine values of mean metal abundance ([M/H]) for 28 A-type stars, including several metal-rich metallic-lined (Am) stars, by spectrum synthesis techniques. A new calibration of the Strömgren metallicity index (δm0) with [M/H], valid for A3 - F0 stars (2.72 < β < 2.88), is obtained: [M/H] = -1O.56δm0 +0.081.
