I discuss the understanding of cosmological bounces in string theory. I argue that at present, there is no controlled approximation to string theory that gives a bouncing solution (aside from those already allowed in the effective low energy field theory, driven by potential energy). I expect that such bounces do not occur, but it is an important open question.
