We propose a 60ks ACIS-S observation of 3C120 to investigate the X-ray emission process for a well resolved knot in the jet. Since we have strong arguments against thermal and inverse Compton models, we believe that the jet related X-ray emission in 3C120 arises from the synchrotron process. However, for two components of this resolved knot, the data are consistent with a flat X-ray spectrum which defies attempts to fit the radio and X-ray data with a canonical (concave downwards) synchrotron model. Our goal is to obtain sufficient counts for a spectral analysis for each of the components of this knot and demonstrate the existence of non-standard synchrotron spectra. The evidence we obtain will impact the interpretation of shock acceleration and reconnection scenarios.
