A magnetic field has recently been discovered for the first time in two Be stars, and a magnetically-confined wind shock (MCWS) model has been proposed to explain the rotational modulation observed in the UV resonance lines sensitive to the wind and several other observables. We propose to observe the slowly rotating magnetic Be star beta Cep, using two phase-constrained Chandra LETG observations to test the MCWS model for the X-ray emission of magnetic Be stars and constrain the location and radial velocity of the X-ray emitting plasma around the star.
