The observations of extrasolar giant planets orbiting close to their companion stars suggest that tidal interactions between the disk and an embedded planet can play a fundamental role in determining the latter's mass and orbital properties. I will describe these interactions and review recent work on orbital migration, focusing on runaway migration, as well as migration in magnetized and turbulent disks.
