The Nearby Supernova Factory reports that a spectrum (range 320-1000 nm) of SN 2006cx (CBET #542) in NGC 7316 (z = 0.018523; Giovanelli & Haynes, 1993, AJ, 105, 1271 via NED) obtained June 10.6 UT with the Supernova Integral Field Spectrograph on the University of Hawaii 2.2-meter telescope, reveals that it is a Type II supernova, showing characteristic hydrogen Balmer P-Cygni profiles. The maximum ejection velocity measured from the blue absorption wing of H-alpha is about 12,000 km/s.
