Scientific paper

Earth-based observations of the Martian surface made during the opposition of 1977-1978 are reported. Attention is given to variations in albedo patches, including the sectors containing Margaritifer Sinus, Acidalium Mare and Sinus Meridiane; Sirenum Mare; Cimmerium Mare; and Syrtis major, and atmospheric phenomena including white and yellow clouds and dust storms from September 1977 to June 1978.
