In models of focused interplanetary transport of solar particles, the presence and nature of the inner boundary may play an influential role, depending on the focusing strength of the interplanetary magnetic field. In an exponential magnetic field, when the inner boundary is located further in than physically reasonable, the artificial region between the injection point and the inner boundary acts as a reservoir, focusing the particles therein and retarding the escape of injected particles from the inner solar system.
