Model calculations have been performed of the motion of nine meteor swarms with various orbital dimensions (semimajor axes 2.5, 4.5, and 6.5 AU) and inclinations (2, 30, and 60 deg). The calculations extend over an interval of 250 years, and include the influence of the giant planets Jupiter and Saturn. An analysis of the results shows that in short-period swarms, planetary perturbations have only a small effect on the orbital elements of the individual particles. An exception to this statement, however, applies in the case that the swarm's period of revolution is commensurate with Jupiter's. Swarms which have close approaches to the planets become significantly deformed and spread out in short periods of time (1-2 years). If there are no close approaches (inclinations of 30 and 60 deg), the deformations are minor, and they develop slowly.
