High-resolution observations of the low-redshift, radio-quiet QSO PG 1351 + 640 in the spectral region around H beta are presented. The H beta profile is observed to be asymmetric in the sense often observed in Seyfert 1 galaxies; the centroid of the emission line is redward of the line center in the rest frame of the peak emission of the (O III) lines of 4959 and 5007 A. The (O III) lines are asymmetric in the opposite sense. Furthermore, the (O III) profiles show small-scale irregularities which persist under repeated observation. The general shape of the forbidden line profiles is logarithmic, as are the (O III) profiles in the spectrum of the Seyfert 1 galaxy IC 4329 A. These general characteristics of the profiles imply that the narrow-line emitting gas is (1) inhomogeneous and (2) moving predominantly in a radial direction with respect to an assumed central source of continuum radiation. Possible mechanisms for producing the observed asymmetry are discussed.
