The present consideration of the physical bases for type II SN explosions notes that the total number of associated events as a function of time, as well as the average neutrino energy and the total neutrino luminosity, are all satisfactorily explained by the standard model of core collapse and neutro-star formation. No exotic physical phenomena beyond the standard model are required, and the data extant are held not to imply the existence of a nonvanishing neutrino mass. It is judged unfortunate that none of the current computer simulations lead to an explosion for the mass range of progenitor stars inferred from SN 1987A.
