A closed form expression for the integral of the astronomical refraction in a simple polytropic atmosphere was derived. The refraction integral taken over a polytropic air layer may be expressed as a difference of two such integrals. Consequently the derived formula can be used for refraction evaluation in a piecewise polytropic atmosphere. The method is useful for both the astronomical and parallactic refraction calculation.
