Photoelectric scans of the strongest diffuse line at 4430 Å were studied in the spectra of 34 early-type stars. The error analysis shows that in spite of the well-known correlation of Wλ with EB-V both observables cannot be directly physically related. Instead of that a strict relation is found between the two interstellar features at λ4430 and λ6284 implying that the same substance is responsible for both features. A circumstellar contribution to the equivalent width of λ4430 must be assumed for early B-type supergiants Ia.
