Methods for transforming trapped particle flux in the earth's inner radiation belt from omnidirectional to unidirectional and vice versa are discussed. A matrix numerical approximation method and a empirical analytic method are used to calculate the distribution of unidirectional flux along the lines of force. Vette's omnidirectional flux model of the inner radiation belt is applied in the calculations. A comparison of the two methods shows that the matrix transformation method is simpler, more rapid and gives more accurate results.
