Possibilities for the formation of magnetic fields with large field-intensity values are considered. It is found that the probability for the occurrence of such fields is particularly great in the case of white dwarf stars and neutron stars. A study of white dwarfs shows that such stars have either an intense magnetic field or practically no magnetic field at all. About 95% of the white dwarfs were found to be not magnetic. The changes in the characteristics of matter which are produced by intense magnetic fields are discussed, giving attention to the properties of neutron stars.
