It is proposed that if the Titius-Bode law of planetary distances is, in fact, a law, the theory of recent large-scale evolution in the solar system is unacceptable. The Titius-Bode law and modifications in the geometric progression and for distance oscillations are described, and it is shown that no decision can be made as to whether it really is a physical law. The incompatibility between the distance progression of the law and the theory of recent large-scale evolution is discussed, and two theories are outlined which might eliminate the incompatibility. It is concluded that either the law or recent large-scale evolution can be accepted, or that neither is correct.
