Neutrino bremsstrahlung by a degenerate electron gas interacting with the nuclear Coulomb field in an extremely degenerate stellar interior is calculated in the framework of a general weak-interaction model which includes neutral-current effects. The dependence of the energy-loss rate for the neutrino bremsstrahlung process on the type of screening assumed is investigated by comparing the results obtained with models of a weakly screened and a strongly screened nuclear Coulomb potential. It is found that neutral currents change the energy-loss rate only slightly and that both types of screening give the same loss rate to within a factor of not more than 2. Limitations of the solutions are discussed.
