A method is proposed for solving the stellar structure equations applied to a rotating system. The structure of critically rotating polytropes is calculated using two related Roche-type approximation schemes, one of which has been developed for stellar models. The results are shown to be in reasonable agreement with those obtained by James (1964) and by Monaghan and Roxburgh (1965).
