Techniques for solving the two-body problem in geometrodynamics, which concerns the motion of two black holes in the gravitational field they create, are investigated with special consideration given to time-symmetric initial data. An equation is proposed which relates the 'bare mass energy', the potential energy, and the 'vibrational energy' of two black holes at the initial moment of interaction. The conditions of coordinate systems in dynamic equations are reviewed, and conditions implying maximal slicings of Schwarzschild spacetime are considered in detail together with harmonic coordinates in these slices. The harmonic coordinate system is found to be well suited for numerical calculations and their interpretation.
