A study of the distribution of spiral galaxy orientations, on the basis
of 7563 spiral galaxies in the Abastumani Catalogue of Bright Galaxies
(1975), shows a statistically highly significant predominance of S
spirals over reverse-S spirals. This observational fact indicates a
large-scale asymmetry of the local region of the Universe.
