A brief overview of the main properties of Martian aerosol (composition, optical thickness, and size distribution) is presented. Particular attention is given to the characteristics of the so-called constant haze. New data on it were obtained in several experiments of the Phobos mission. In particular, the height distribution of the extinction coefficient was derived. Its full optical depth was about 0.2 - twice as small as that measured by Viking during the same season, and the size particle distribution was found to be narrower than that from the Viking data.
