The hypothesis that broad emission lines in AGN are formed by dense clouds in a molecular hydromagnetic wind accelerated radiatively and centrifugally away from an accretion disk orbiting a massive black hole is presented. A detailed model of line formation by photoionized clouds accelerated outward by a hydromagnetic wind is presented. Observations of broad emission lines from quasars and Seyfert galaxies are presented. Disk-driven hydromagnetic winds are described, as well as how the wind kinematics and the assumed prescription for the line emissivity are translated into line profiles. The effects of electron scattering are introduced, and it is shown how line profiles can be interpreted as diagnostics of the bulk flow. Some observational ramifications are discussed.
