The radial distribution of 1227 blue knots in the rectified planes of 32 galaxies is examined and shows that the method is equivalent to mapping the distribution of H II regions from narrow-band imaging in H alpha. The blue knots show less detail in their distribution, as compared with H II regions or with a parameter measuring the local efficiency of star formation. This is interpreted as showing the diffusion of OB stars out of the regions where they formed.
