The rapidly oscillating Ap star HR 1217 was observed on two nights in December 1986. Radial velocity observations were performed with the 3.6 m Canada-Frace-Hawaii telescope while photometric observations were performed with the 0.6 and 2.2 m telescopes of the University of Hawaii. A search was conducted for velocity oscillations which matched the dominant photometric period of the star at about 6.13 minutes. No significant velocity variation above 130 m/s was seen on the first night. However, on the second night, the photometric amplitude had risen to 6.8 mmag with corresponding velocity variations of 400 + or - 50 m/s. This is direct evidence that these stars are indeed pulsating variables.
