The authors have mapped the J = 1 - 0 emission line of HCN toward the bipolar circumstellar envelope CRL 2688 (the "Egg Nebula") with 5" angular resolution and 2 km s-1 velocity resolution. The HCN emission is strongly concentrated at the midpoint of the two optical lobes, with fainter extensions along the optical dark lane. The HCN morphology is consistent with a toroidal density distribution for the gas, with the highest densities in the plane of the optical dark lane. The velocity field of the HCN emission shows to main features: (1) a gradient along the bipolar axis consistent with outflow which has higher velocity at the poles than at the equator; and (2) a gradient along the optical dark lane indicating a significant rotational component.
