High-resolution spectra of the symbiotic star CI Cyg were obtained for the first time in the 1-2.5 micron infrared region, using Fourier Transform Spectroscopy, at photometric phase 0.51. Metallic and CO absorption lines, almost certainly formed in the atmosphere of the cool component, are detected. Their FWHMs are rather narrower than those for a comparison giant star of similar spectral type, which implies little or no enhancement of the turbulent motion and the rotational velocity of the cool component due to the hot companion. Very different profiles of the hydrogen Paschen beta and Brackett gamma lines and the helium 10830 A lines are observed. They are discussed in relation to the particular geometry at the time of the observation, and interpreted in terms of components involving the wind of the cool giant and an accretion disk around the hot source.
