The author presents a new method of phase self-calibration for metre-wave aperture synthesis systems, the method of one-dimensional image correlation analysis. This method has been applied to image reconstruction using the Miyun Metrewave Aperture Synthesis Radiotelescope. It provides phase calibration at short time intervals so as to correct both phase drifts due to ionosphere and system phase drifts. The author presents maps centred at the radio source DA 240, observed at 232 MHz, to demonstrate the improvement produced by applying this method. He also shows the estimates of ionospheric variation during the period of observation which he gets as a by-product.
