B and V photometry in the Johnson system is presented for two fields in NGC 300 using both photographic and CCD cameras. Details on the observations and data reduction are given. After a careful discussion and comparison of the photometric results, a (V, B-V) diagram is derived. This allows the determination of the slope of the luminosity function (0.57±0.1). Using evolutionary stellar models, the slope of the Initial Mass Function is deduced (-2.5±0.2), in good agreement with the values obtained for the solar neighbourhood stars.
