H Ly-α observations of the Jovian disc were made near the 1999 opposition by the HST-STIS instrument. As was already noticed in H Ly-α spectra measured with GHRS, the global spectra -- integrated all along the aperture -- exhibit a clear asymmetry between the blue and the red wings. Using now the particular capabilities of the STIS spectro-imager as well as the spatial scan offered by the long aperture of 52" x 0.5" , a detailed analysis of the Jovian Ly-α emission was made both spatially and spectrally. For spectra obtained around the receeding and approaching limbs, the flux variation from the limb to the interior of the planetary disc was analysed in 20 spectral ranges ( ~ 2 pm wide). Spatial and spectral cross-correlations between the obtained light-curves provided the Doppler distribution of the observed flux excess. This distribution is interpreted as being due to hot hydrogen moving around Jupiter inside the thermosphere. The possible implications are outlined.
