Planetesimals are reviewed. It is noted that the gravitational interaction with Jupiter transfers planetesimal collision fragments to the internal region of the solar system where they can be observed as asteroids from one of the Hale Observatories on Mount Palomar and with the Spacewatch camera in Arizona. Asteroid color and brightness measurements using UBV filters with spectral bands of about 0.07 micron centered on 0.37, 0.44, and 0.55 micron wavelengths are discussed, as well as the asteroid's mean relative velocity and distances from the sun. Attention is also given to the North America nebula; such asteroids as Icarus, Ceres, and Chiron; the Viking mission and its images of Mars, Phobos, and Deimos; and the Barringer Meteoritic Crater.
