The following topics are discussed: recent developments in understanding the origin of the 'Butcher-Oemler' effect, arising from detailed optical and infrared studies of galaxies in selected clusters; a new catalog of southern clusters, complementing the northern catalog of Gunn, Hoessel and Oke (1986), which provides an estimate of the space density tool clusters to redshift z approximately equal to 0.5; the properties of early type galaxies in an extensive optical infrared survey of clusters with z(bar) = 0.75; the prospects for finding clusters with red shift z greater than 1 (if they exist) and the likely role of Rosat (x-ray astronomy satellite) in such programs.
