It is shown that the color indices, absolute magnitude, and ratio of X-ray to optical luminosity of low-mass X-ray binaries are distributed in fairly narrow intervals and that the idea of a 'typical' low-mass X-ray binary is meaningful. The sample discussed comprises 25 X-ray sources whose optical spectrum shows the characteristic 'Sco X-1 type' features. A typical low-mass X-ray binary consists of a neutron star, surrounded by an accretion disk with a radius of approximately 7 x 10 to the 10th cm, and a companion star whose mass is greater than approximately 0.6 solar mass. The orbital period exceeds approximately 6 hours.
