Present observational evidence that quasars are the nuclei of distant Seyfert-like galaxies is reviewed. Particular attention is given to recent studies of Markarian 205, which has been found to be the nucleus of a galaxy with a nearby companion galaxy that are 10 times farther than the peculiar foreground spiral NGC 4319, 3C 206, which was found to be a galactic nucleus in a cluster of galaxies, and 3C 273, which was found to be surrounded by faint nebulosity with oxygen and neon emission lines at the same redshift as the quasar, with characteristics of a galaxy around the quasar. It is concluded that such observations, together with studies of other-low-redshift quasars, constitute strong evidence that quasars in general are, in fact, the luminous nuclei of distant galaxies.
