The present B and V CCD observations of deep photometric sequences near Cepheid variables in M31, M33, and NGC 2403, are used to reanalyze the Cepheid distances to these galaxies. A check is also made of the photometry of the brightest stars in M81 and its dwarf companion, Holmberg IX. The primary uncertainty in the true distance moduli of the three galaxies remains the degree of reddening toward them. While problems are identified with the original photometry in all three galaxies, the reddeningd deduced from multiband data are found to be more seriously affected by photometric errors, leading to greater uncertainties in the true moduli.
