It has been conventional to describe AM Her systems as 'synchronously rotating' without worrying about just how synchronous this rotation actually is. It is shown that in fact these systems may well be librating with a full amplitude of about 1 rad with periods of about 30 yr. If so, such changes should be observable over the next decade, and their presence (or absence) will have significant impact upon evolutionary scenarios of AM Her systems.
