The V data in the literature for HR 1170 have been reanalysed. The two frequencies of highest amplitude are determined to be f1 = 10.0638 ± 0.0020 and f2 = 10.9913±0.0020 day-1. These frequencies, as well as their amplitudes and phases, appear to have been constant from 1973 to 1977. We conclude that f1 is due to pulsation in a radial mode from the derived phase shift between the light and colour curves of Δφ(V,B-V) = 36±6°. it is suggested that f1 is the first overtone (k = 1) radial mode. We conclude that f2 must be due to pulsation in a non-radial mode from the ratio f1/f2 = 0.922. A speculation about a relationship between the frequency spacing and rotational velocity is made.
