The authors computed pre-main-sequence stellar models with variable surface magnetic fields. For models with initial parameters similar to those of typical T Tauri stars, imposing surface magnetic fields of 1300 and 165 gauss resulted in visual brightness changes up to 3.5 mag. It is concluded that most of the observed brightness variability of the T Tauri stars may be caused by variable surface magnetic fields.
