Recent observational results on the cosmic background radiation (CBR)
are examined in the context of present theoretical understanding.
Difficulties encountered in making exact spectral measurements, and ways
to overcome them, are stressed. The findings concerning the CBR
anisotropy on large angular scales are reviewed.
