The dominant interactions during violent relaxation of a cluster of galaxies are discussed, while collisions between dissimilarly massed galaxies are considered in detail. A condition for galaxy capture is given, and it is also shown that heating of large galaxies by penetrating of smaller galaxies during maximum contraction can both cut off the initial galactic mass function at high masses in rich clusters and provide the dispersed dark mass in clusters. Attention is drawn to the multiple nature of galaxy encounters at maximum cluster contraction.
