Padeapproximants are used to calculate the mean number of the particle scattering in a semiinfinite and finite slab, for arbitrary energy sources. Uniform source distribution is considered in the case of the finite slab, while in the case of the semiinfinite medium the number of particles due to external radiation, as well as those at a particular point in the medium, are calculated. The present numerical results are compared with the exact values obtained by Sobolev's (1966, 1967) method.
