The applicability of hydrodynamic equations of arbitrary order to the dynamics of stellar systems is investigated. A chain of moment equations for steady-state spherical systems is considered. It is proved that for such systems, the excess in the velocity distribution will vanish if and only if the velocity variances satisfy well-known relations of ellipsoidal dynamics.
