The present study examines the structure of a hydromagnetic shock wave which is so strong that downstream of the shock the gas radiates thermally. The general differential approximation for radiation is invoked and the solution is compared with that in a paper by Bestman (1990) for an optically thick gas. The radiative flux was found to play a dominant role in the solution, and the shock structure for the general differential approximation is broadened by radiation far more than the case of optically thick gas.
