Ideal MHD equations are used to study the vertical stability of a prominence in a linear force-free field in two dimensions. The prominence is modeled by a line current in equilibrium at a height between the background magnetic force, the repulsion of image currents and gravity. Attention is given to boundary conditions, current evolution, parameters, stability results with boundary conditions, and the effects of lateral boundaries.
