A new active compact object has been found in the compact group Shk 278. The photometry indicates that galaxy number 4 in the group is a low luminosity, very compact object, with integrated colors that would correspond to those of a low luminosity active nuclei in an early-type galaxy. The spectrum shows Balmer lines about 10,000 km/s wide at zero intensity, narrower forbidden O III lines and prominent Fe II features, apart from other lines. Its redshift make Shk 278/4 a physical member of the group. Comparison with other similar objects indicates that Shk 278/4 has a raemarkable resemblance with QSO or QSO-like objects as Mkn 335 or Ton 256.
