The equations for coupled orbital, librational, and flexural motions are obtained for a satellite having an arbitrary number of appendages in the orbital plane and two flexible members perpendicular to it. The general nature of the equations makes it possible to study both the attitude and orbital motions as affected by satellite flexibility. A first order perturbation analysis in terms of the librational angles and flexural deformations suggests significant secular orbital change for certain forms of elastic displacements. The results are applied to the Alouette II, Radio Astronomy Explorer, and the Tethered Orbiting Interferometer satellites, and increased secular orbital drifts due to satellite flexibility are revealed.
