The properties of early generations of stars are examined in the framework of the scale covariant theory of gravitation developed by Canuto et al. (1977). The scale covariant cosmology is astrophysically sound if matter creation is assumed to be occurring in the universe at present. In general, the early-generation stars are found to have a higher rate of nuclear transformation and a higher luminosity per unit mass than present stars; the zero-age sequence, the central conditions in the stars, the critical stellar masses, the paths of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, and changes in lifetimes are assessed for the early-generation stars. Scale covariant cosmology also implies that the present helium content of the universe may be explained by early-generation stellar processes.
