We present some initial results from the Hinode EUV Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on the heating and cooling of active region loops. The events we observe are part of the short term active region evolution within the span of 50 hours of sit-and-stare observations. We investigate the temporal evolution of the intensity and Doppler shift of spectral lines formed at different temperatures. We then determine time lags and cooling times at various temperature regimes and discuss the results in the context of previous results provided by earlier space missions. This effort is considered a first step into the hydrodynamic modeling of the loop structures. The morphology of the structures is obtained from X-Ray Telescope (XRT) and TRACE images.
