We examine a class of Stephani cosmological models as a prototype of nonhomogeneous models in which accelerated expansion appears naturally, without postulating dark energy or any modification of Einstain's equations. We demonstrate that Stephani model well fits currently avaliable SN Ia data at the same level of accuracy as the concordance ΛCDM model. The different statistical methods are used to obtain best fit and most probable values of the model parameter in this context. The complementary analysis of the age of the oldest astronomical objects as a method of estimate model parameter is also used to confirm our analysis. We also consider the influence of the value of transition redshift. Our results can suggest the existence of nontrivial relation between nonhomogeneity and acceleration of the Universe.
